The National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) unveils new series of banknotes featuring Polymer substrates and enhanced security features. On December 4, the National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) marked a significant milestone with the launch of Tonga's new series of banknotes. The chosen date for the release holds special significance as it commemorates the birthday of King Tupou I, a key modernizer who reigned from 1845 to 1893. Produced in collaboration with De La Rue, the new banknote series incorporates both paper and polymer substrates, introducing updated security elements to enhance durability and deter counterfeiting. This redesign represents Tonga's first use of polymer in its currency since 2015. The series comprises 2-, 5-, 10-, 20-, 50-, and 100-pa’anga notes, with the colors remaining unchanged. The 1 Ruble Banknote, issued in 1961 by the State Treasury of the USSR, holds a distinguished grade of Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) from PMG.

This 1 Ruble Banknote is a striking blend of colors, including shades of brown, green, red, yellow, and white, and measures 105 x 53 mm in size. The majority of the banknote features a pale yellow-green security underprint, characterized by wavy lines, adding to its visual appeal.

On the obverse side of the banknote, you'll find the USSR coat of arms positioned in the upper left corner. This iconic emblem is set below a semi-frame adorned with a plant motif, and above it, a cartouche with inscriptions. The denomination is prominently featured in the center of the banknote, accompanied by an inscription above and the date below.

Flipping to the reverse of the banknote, you'll discover a visually captivating composition of multicolored abstract elements forming a frame adorned with additional cartouches. The denomination, printed in red, takes center stage in the upper half of the frame, while a unique feature is the repetition of the denomination in 14 different languages within a cartouche set against a white background in the lower portion of the frame. Another cartouche, featuring inscriptions and printed in green, adorns the bottom of the frame.
