The National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) unveils new series of banknotes featuring Polymer substrates and enhanced security features. On December 4, the National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) marked a significant milestone with the launch of Tonga's new series of banknotes. The chosen date for the release holds special significance as it commemorates the birthday of King Tupou I, a key modernizer who reigned from 1845 to 1893. Produced in collaboration with De La Rue, the new banknote series incorporates both paper and polymer substrates, introducing updated security elements to enhance durability and deter counterfeiting. This redesign represents Tonga's first use of polymer in its currency since 2015. The series comprises 2-, 5-, 10-, 20-, 50-, and 100-pa’anga notes, with the colors remaining unchanged. The obverse side of the 500 Shillings Banknote presents a striking image of the Kenyatta statue alongside the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. The background features a panoramic view of buildings and a majestic mountain, a nod to Kenya's stunning landscape. The national emblem occupies the upper left corner, symbolizing the unity and pride of the nation. A lion's head graces the lower right, adding a regal touch to the design.

The reverse side transports us to the realm of Kenya's incredible wildlife. Elephants and giraffes, two of the country's most iconic and cherished animals, are beautifully portrayed, ambling gracefully to the right. The lion's head stands as a central motif, underscoring the untamed and powerful spirit of the Kenyan wilderness. A dove holding an olive branch extends a message of peace and harmony, creating a poignant juxtaposition with the wild beauty of the savannah.
